Are you ready to discover some great ideas for how to cheer yourself up? If so, let’s stop wasting time! 1. Spend time with a pet.

    • Change what you're doing. If you're upset because you feel stuck in a rut, do something different. Sometimes just getting out of your current activity can alter your mood.
    • Go outside. Spending time in nature can reduce stress and lift your mood. Try going for a walk in the park, visiting a garden or arboretum if you live in a city.
    • Exercise. Exercising releases “feel-good” neurotransmitters to your brain. Get in a workout, play one of your favorite sports or activities, or just be more active in your daily routine.
    • Do something that makes you smile. Studies have shown that smiling can improve your mood. Even if you don't feel like smiling, remind yourself that just the act of smiling can cheer you up.
    • Step back and self-reflect. Whenever I start feeling depressed, I try to stop, reflect, and get to the root of my feelings.
    • Reach out to someone. I used to bottle up my feelings out of fear that I would be judged if I talked about them. I’ve since learned that reaching out to a loving, understanding person is one of the best things I can do.
    • Listen to music. Music can heal, put you in a better mood, make you feel less alone, or take you on a mental journey.
    • Cuddle or play with pets. I have really sweet and happy dogs that are always quick to shower me with love whenever they see me. Spending quality time with a loving pet can instantly make your heart and soul feel better.

    • Take a walk in nature. To me, nature is an instant mood booster. Even if you can’t head to the nearest hiking trail, taking a walk around the neighborhood works fine, as well.
    • Sit with your feelings. This is the easiest, yet also the hardest coping strategy. All you have to do is sit there and remove yourself from all distractions.
    • Practice yin yoga. Yin is a slower, gentler style of yoga which has you hold a stretch for several minutes at a time. This is my favorite style of yoga, due to its powerful relaxation effects.
    • Watch these YouTubers. These people are not only YouTubers; they’re motivational speakers, teachers, and healers. Depending on your beliefs, you may prefer some of them more than others, so take what works for you and leave what doesn’t.
