On the other hand, statements such as I've never heard such nonsense are complete, in and of themselves. Such could be thought of as "that type of" (I said no such thing). Sorry. This probably isn't helpful.

But "He is talking a lot of nonsense" is a standard expression, whereas I don't think I would ever say "He is saying a lot of nonsense". It was such a fortune = We were very lucky … It was such a thrill = It was very exiting I guess above such as refer to a specific person/event. While in the example below such refers to general concept/situation. This is such nonsense/rubbish = This is a lot of nonsense/rubbish
Jan 13, 2017 · It implies the Greeks did not regard novelty with disdain, therefor they liked it. People who like novelty are not stereotypically people who preserve antiquity. "The Romans did preserve ancient things but the Greeks did not" is how I read it. The Greeks would not have created the ancient things if they hadn't liked novelty.

Could I translate this into french as: Comment pouvons-nous tenir une telle opinion très ferme sur la situation politique d'un pays, tout en fermant les yeux à l'autre? Or would it just be "avoir?"
