Gogeta VS Vegito is the 171st episode and Season 9 Finale of Death Battle, featuring Gogeta and Vegito from the Dragon Ball series in a battle to determine the stronger Super Saiyan fusion. Gogeta and Vegito were both voiced by Michael Kovach and Nick Landis.

Boomstick: Last one! Man, these things are so easy to find nowadays.

Wiz: Yes! Now, with this ultimate power, I can finally...

    Boomstick: ...Have Gogeta fight Vegito!

Wiz: ...Conquer the world! ...Ahem, what?

Boomstick: Oh, come on, it's the ultimate Dragon Ball question! Which fusion of Goku and Vegeta is stronger? Gogeta, the combo greater than legends, or Vegito, the mix who surpassed gods?

Wiz: Intriguing. They are, in many ways, identical, yet, still quite different. Though, in canon, they only have a collective total of three brief appearances. To truly determine who would win, let's examine all of their material.

Boomstick: Imagine, it's 1995 and you're at a movie theatre in Japan. You're there to watch Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn, and it's gonna be the most radical movie ever, dude! I mean, yeah, it was a little weird when Adolf showed up, but then, it happened. Goku and Vegeta were pushed to the brink with only one option left. They merged into a single being of amazing power: Gogeta!

Boomstick: And that would be the greatest thing eight-year-old you ever saw. Yup, ya peaked at eight.

Wiz: Fun fact: while Vegito had already debuted in the manga two months earlier, Gogeta was created first. After all, the movie had been in production throughout the previous year.

Boomstick: Two Saiyans, the proud son of royalty and the lower class champion becoming one epic powerhouse? This is the true potential of Goku and Vegeta. Easily a top five Dragon Ball moment. Hey, nothin' beats the first time we saw Super Saiyan, but-but I think this comes close.

Wiz: This method of fusion was taught to Goku by the Metamorans, a mysterious alien people who we never actually see.

Boomstick: But I'd guess they like wearin' crop tops with inflatable shoulder pads. Anyway, when Goku taught this fabled technique to Goten and Trunks... it was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen.

Boomstick: It's the spring of 1995. A demonic menace has threatened to consume the world in chaos. Goku and Vegeta were pushed to the brink, with only one option left: Fusion! They used one of their most incredible techniques to become a merged being of unimaginable power-

    Boomstick: Does-does this sound familiar?

Wiz: But there wasn't time to teach Vegeta an awkward dance routine he'd ultimately despise. Instead, they used the Potara.

Boomstick: Only the gods themselves could rock bling like this. That's right, the Potara earrings come from the Kais, the gods that supervise the universes.

Wiz: By placing one earring on each person's opposite ear, the Potara forcibly fuses the two beings together, no power level matching required. In this case, Goku and Vegeta fused to become Vegito.

Boomstick: Okay, seriously? "Vegito"? Couldn't they have a better name?

Wiz: Alright, the combatants are set. We've run the data through all possibilities.

Boomstick: Hear my wish, Eternal Dragon... IT'S TIME FOR A DEATH BATTLEEE!!!

Shenron: Your wish has been granted.

Vegeta (Vegito): What is this madness?!

Goku (Gogeta): Whoa, Vegeta! Am I really that much taller than you?

Vegeta and Vegeta: Stuff it, Kakarot!

    Goku and Vegeta: Fuuuu....sion! HA!

    Gogeta and Vegito: GO!

Boomstick: Oh man, that was epic! Totally worth the wish!... well, I guess we probably could've solved a lot of world problems with that

Wiz: Ah, I suppose world domination can wait another year. This fight was incredibly close. No, seriously, how could it not be? They’re almost exactly the same person!

Boomstick: With a few minor differences here and there, like signature attacks. Neither Vegito nor Gogeta had one single power that provided an absolute edge over the other.

    Raging Blast

Wiz: Except perhaps Vegito's longer time limit, though it’s not so clear cut. Both have overtaxed their energy quick enough to end their fusions in less than ten minutes. Time isn't the only factor, but also whatever is maintaining each fusion; Gogeta's body and Vegito's earrings. It's possible Vegito's power can actually drain the Potara faster than Gogeta's does his own body.

Boomstick: Still, it's twice the time, and that definitely gave Vegito more flexibility in strategy. So more often than not, it's safe to say Gogeta would run out of juice first.

    Gogeta

+ Has more canonical victories + More exclusive techniques = Equal skill - Fusion Dance can fail if performed improperly - Shorter duration

    Vegito

+ Considered stronger by more official sources + Longer duration + No power matching required = Equal skill - Unable to power down after fusion

    Composition

The track for this fight is "Dragon Dance" by Brandon Yates featuring Victor Borba (best known for being the vocalist on "Bury the Light" from Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition), with mixing and mastering done by Anthony DiGiacomo. It is a lyrical rock track whose lyrics encapsulates the essence of Goku and Vegeta's characters, with Borba's more higher-toned singing being layered over Yates' lower grit preformance to give the impression of a "fusion" vocal preformance. The track also features riffs on some iconic Dragon Ball songs, specifically "Cha-La Head Cha-La" (with its main refrain even being referenced in the lyrics during the climax), "Rock the Dragon", Vegeta's Super Saiyan theme, and the intro theme to Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2 (in the guitar solo), as well as some references to lyrics from "Princes of Pride" from Thor VS Vegeta and "Alive" from Goku VS Superman 2.

    Title

The title references the Fusion Dance, the method of fusion Goku and Vegeta use to become Gogeta, as well as how both combatants originate from the world of Dragon Ball. It also references the traditional Chinese celebratory dance of the same name as a nod to how Dragon Ball drew inspiration from Chinese culture and the Chinese story of Journey to the West.

    Cover Art

The cover art depicts Gogeta's arm on the left holding his Stardust Breaker with Vegito's arm on the right with his Spirit Sword, his index finger starting to be erased by the Stardust Breaker. One Potara earring is on either side of the cover art, with the left one cut in half.
