In the Preferences dialog box, choose General in the Categories list, and then select the Enable PDF thumbnail previews in Windows Explorer check box. Enable PDF thumbnail previews. Click OK. Wait for a few seconds while Acrobat is configured to show thumbnail previews in Windows Explorer.

Try clean booting Windows and see if that resolves the issue. Eliminate all non-Microsoft shell extensions (except the PowerToys PDF preview handler) and start a clean instance of Explorer.

Apr 18, 2024 · Hi Ramesh. it really looks to me that for the Windows Explorer to Preview any PDF files - Windows first requires the REGISTRY entry PrePreviewHandler as a REGISTRY entry of (Default) only - will not trigger the Explorer Preview function to work. Hi BW (), PrevPreviewHandler need not exist.
Sep 9, 2022 · This is caused by a bug in Microsoft Edge Preview Handler. Workaround: Remove # from the folder name (i.e., rename "#Folding Stools" to "Folding Stools"), and the preview will magically work, regardless of what your default PDF viewer is. Ramesh, Windows Shell MVP 2003-2012.
