Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for The Boys.

Update: Now that Season 2 has come to a close, we finally got THAT scene in the final moments of the last episode. And The Boys co-creator Eric Kripke has gone on the record about how the team managed to get the controversial scene into the show after it was cut in the first season. Scroll down past this update for all the details on the spoilery scene.

“Originally, we had a different final image for Homelander," Kripke told The Wrap. "He was just kind of, he was actually in space and he was like, hovering over the earth [sic], kind of like Superman does, but had like a scary sociopathic look. It was awesome. We shot it. But Amazon had the note of like, ‘We’d love to see if we could stick the landing on him a little harder. And, you know, have something that maybe isn’t quite as ambiguous.’ And I was like, I got just the idea!”

Kripke added, "Amazon seemed to think it wasn’t necessary. I thought it told me something about his psyche. To be clear, they've been great, that may have been the ONLY fight I lost in Season 1."

Despite the iron ruling on this graphic scene, Amazon generally allowed Kripke free reign over the boundary pushing content of his adult-themed comic adaptation, as the streaming service permitted full-frontal nudity, bizarre sex scenes, extreme gore, and violence.

The Boys explores the seedy underbelly of sex, murder, and mayhem with its satirical view of a society obsessed with celebrity, politics, and pleasing facades - referred to by Kripke at Comic Con as a, "very accurate reflection of the world we live in."

Amazon has already renewed The Boys for a second season, so if you would like to learn more about this ultra-violent web series, check out our (mostly) spoiler-free review of season one and find out what the ending means for the show moving forward.
