Within different situations, both demonstrate defining traits (Ex- Bulma's mechanical prowess, which Goku compliments by saying it's convenient being friends with the world's smartest person) and gradually appreciate each other more than they've expressed in a long time.
Bulma is the most significant female character in the series. Aside from Goku himself, Bulma is the single longest-running character in the entire franchise, being introduced in the first Dragon Ball chapter and episode, maintaining a prominent role until the end of the series.
