The APB interface is not pipelined and is a simple, synchronous protocol. Every transfer takes at least two cycles to complete. The APB interface is designed for accessing the programmable control registers of peripheral devices. APB peripherals are typically connected to the main memory system using an APB bridge.
The Arm Advanced Microcontroller Bus Architecture (AMBA) is an open-standard, on-chip interconnect specification for the connection and management of functional blocks in system-on-a-chip (SoC) designs.

Jun 2, 2019 · The AMBA specification was developed by ARM and has become the de facto standard for interfacing components in an SoC. While AMBA is currently on its 5 th revision and has evolved significantly over time, legacy implementations are widely used and remain relevant.
The APB is designed to be a secondary bus to ASB, connected by a bridge (which limits the ASB loading). APB is a much simpler bus and has a low power focus: data access is controlled by select and strobe only (i.e. no clock, and thereby reducing power)
APB is highly compact, low power, and allows configuration and low-bandwidth traffic to be isolated from high-performance interconnects. AMBA 4 APB is fully backward compatible with AMBA 3 APB, allowing the use of existing APB peripherals.
