  1. Aug 11, 2018 · The badge shown on scimago seems to take the most favourable ranking. So, for example, if the journal is ranked in the top quartile for at least one, it will have a badge as a Q1 journal. Critical commentary: In general, I think subdiscipline ranking based on SJR is superior to impact factors. It overcomes several biases in impact factor:

  2. Jun 23, 2015 · This is the main reason why journal rankings based on the H-index usually deviates quite alot from ranking based on avarage-based metrics (such as the Impact factor and SJR). When using the H-index to rank journals a small top-journal within a field (based on article impact) can be surpassed by large journals.

  3. SJR also has a bunch of corrections to reduce discipline-specific differences in citation practices and a way of weighting certain citations more highly (based on the prestige/impact of source). While I think SJR is much better than impact factor, this might not change within discipline rankings too much because most of these differences between metrics address discipline-level differences.

  4. The Scimago Journal Rank (SJR) only considers documents published in the journal in the last three years, and weights them depending on the prestige of the journals the citing papers were published in. The idea is that a citation is "worth more" if it's from (what SJR determines to be) a highly prestigious journal.

  7. Feb 9, 2022 · Scopus' CiteScore is closer to the "naïve" impact factor calculations; Scimago's SJR is weighted by the "prestige" of the source the article was cited at. The comparison between different metrics could be found e.g. here. Like Jon Custer stated in the comments, they are just different (and, I might add, rather arbitrary!) ways to compare journals.

  8. Jun 27, 2016 · PS - about the journals you asked about - my ranking would be Duke > Crelle, Compositio, Advances, Amer J Math > Selecta > IMRN. The difference between the strongest and weakest of those you listed is significant - I'd put Duke at 6th or 7th best out of all math journals, and IMRN outside the top 20. Share.

  9. Oct 8, 2021 · @Lee, I can not comment on your second question, but different metrics have different ranking systems. I am also in the Computer Science field. We mainly refer to CORE ranking for conferences (e.g., A*, A, B, etc.) and best quartile for journals (e.g., Q1, Q2, etc.) –

  10. The only difference is the storage media. SCI is only available on CD/DVD format; however, SCIE is available online. This answers the question of why there are fewer journals in SCI. But it doesn't say why a given journal that is in the SCIE is or is not included in the SCI.
