In general, most insurers will require their customers to hold a physical driving licence. However, it is worth speaking to your insurance provider to check their position on this. They may require you to clarify your licence status and that you are driving in accordance with the Section 88 requirements with the police, and provided you have proof of that, be willing to insure you.

I have checked the DVLA website to see what I have to do to renew it next year and it's unclear exactly what I have to do. It doesn't indicate whether I have to change to a photo licence or not, whether I can just renew it online and keep the old paper licence or whether I have to do it by post. I have read all sorts of info online saying I need a biometric passport, which I have, but I have no idea why I need it renew my licence.
