  1. In order to effectively address the health concerns of the urban poor population, the Ministry proposes to launch a new sub-mission National Urban Health Mission (NUHM). The Mission Steering Group of the NHM will be expanded to work as the apex body for NUHM also.

  5. To address healthcare needs of urban population, particularly urban poor, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has formulated National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) as a Sub-Mission under an over-arching National Health Mission (NHM) to be launched during the 12th Five Year Plan.

  6. The NUHM focuses on the following points- Urban poor population living in listed and unlisted slums. The vulnerable population such as homeless, rag-pickers, street children, rickshaw pullers, construction and brick and lime kiln workers, sex workers and other temporary migrants.

  10. NUHM aims to provide comprehensive primary healthcare services in urban areas, through Urban Primary Health Centers (U-PHCs), Urban Community Health Centers (U-CHCs) (which can act as first referral units), strong outreach services and accessible frontline health workers.
