Monmouth (/ ˈmɒnməθ / MON-məth or / ˈmʌn -/ MUN-; Welsh: Trefynwy, lit. 'Town on the Monnow') is a market town and community in Monmouthshire, Wales, situated on where the River Monnow joins the River Wye, two miles (three kilometres) from the Wales–England border. The population in the 2011 census was 10,508, rising from 8,877 in 2001.

Wonderful trout fishery in the heart of the Wye Valley in Redbrook.We come here every week and are never disappointed.Hard fighting fish,rainbows,blues,brown and tiger trout.Brown and Tiger trout have to be returned.We do the £30 catch and release ticket,you have to kill first fish and then return 10.Gary is always helpful and wants his fish to be caught.The fish come from Exmoor Fisheries weekly.Parking is easy and on the flat.Thereis tackle for hire or to buy.Gary serves very good food from sandwiches to breakfasts and combinations,including chips.There is a toilet with disabled access.We went today when it was minus 7 degrees but we still caught fish.
- Visit the Monnow Bridge. Out of all the attractions in Monmouth, my personal favourite was the Monnow Bridge! In my opinion, it’s one of the best things to do in Monmouth.
- Take a walk along the banks of the River Monnow and Wye. From the Monnow Bridge, you can easily take a leisurely stroll along the banks of the River Monnow.
- Visit the Parish Church of St Thomas the Martyr. I have to admit, there wasn’t much of note after you’ve crossed the River Monnow to ‘Over Monnow’. But, there was one church that stood out to me and that was the Parish Church of St Thomas the Martyr.
- Grab dinner in the historic Robin Hood Inn. At the end of Monnow Street by the Monnow Bridge is an old pub which is almost a tourist attraction in itself.
