Mar 18, 2022 · Anyway Khan is a mongolic word while balyk may have been turkic. Certain tribes such as the Onguts may have been turkic originally, but they became mongolized. The emperor of Jin was called "Altan Khan or Golden Khan" also, so it would make sense the city was already called Khan Balyk prior to the Mongols.
