He is better known as the producer of record breaking blockbuster hit – Sholay in 1975, which is still regarded as one among the top 5 Indian movies ever produced. The movie was directed by his son, Ramesh Sippy.

A prominent and active member of the film industry, Sippy was President of the Film Federation of India in 1972-1973, 1985-1986, and 1988-1992. He also held the position of the Chairman of the Film and Television Producers Guild of India for several years. He was married to Mohini. The couple had four sons and a daughter.
G.P. Sippy was born on 14 September 1914 in Hyderabad, Sind, British India. He was a producer and actor, known for Sholay (1975), Brahmachari (1968) and Marine Drive (1955). He died on 25 December 2007 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.
