Sitaram Purushottam Patwardhan was born on 4 November 1894, in the village of Agargule in Ratnagiri district and emerged as a significant figure under the name Appasaheb Patwardhan. Growing up where primary education was scarce, he ventured into Ratnagiri after completing his studies up to grade 4 at Pantoji School.
