Relics is to me a core PF album that gathers a bunch of tracks that weren't on regular albums, and highlights other interesting and impressive early songs from their first three long-playing records.
Relics is solid enough to be a Floyd album, every song here is good. But the obvious absence of Syd Barrett on some tracks would ruin the illusion, the variety in music however wouldn't really matter, as the Floyd were known to make musically disjointed albums at that time.
Relics (subtitle: A Bizarre Collection of Antiques & Curios) is a 1971 compilation album by English progressive rock band Pink Floyd. The album was released in the UK on 14 May 1971 and in the United States on the following day.
So "Relics" is arguably a good representation of both the most melodic and accessible early psychadelic tinged rock songs by the band, but also some of the most trippy experimental sound collages. In that respect "Relics" is as good a place to start your journey with early Pink Floyd as any.
