Stephen (1092 or 1096 – 25 October 1154), often referred to as Stephen of Blois, was King of England from 22 December 1135 to his death in 1154. He was Count of Boulogne jure uxoris from 1125 until 1147 and Duke of Normandy from 1135 until 1144.
Oct 25, 2012 · In October he fell ill at Dover with a bowel disorder and internal bleeding. It became clear that he was dying and his old friend Prior Ralph of Holy Trinity, Aldgate, was called to Dover to attend him at the last. Archbishop Theobald of Canterbury seems to have been there as well.

Stephen was the king of England from 1135 to 1154, after usurping the throne from Matilda. He died in October 1154 and was succeeded by Henry II, the son of Matilda.
However, when Henry died unexpectedly in 1135, Stephen rushed to England, where he had himself crowned king on December 22. One of Stephen's first acts as king was to grant an unprecedented charter of liberties to the English Church, guaranteeing ecclesiastical rights and property and promising to curb the abuses of royal officials.
