Publication of scientific journals has been a major activity of the Academy since its formation in 1934 and the Proceedings of the Indian Academy of Sciences Part A and Part B began publication that very year. The Academy today publishes 12 journals, several of which grew out of the original Proceedings.
The Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore was founded by Indian Physicist and Nobel Laureate C. V. Raman, and was registered as a society on 27 April 1934. Inaugurated on 31 July 1934, it began with 65 founding fellows.

The Indian Academy of Sciences (IASc) was founded by Nobel Laureate Sir C. V. Raman and was registered as a Society on 27 April 1934. Academy’s aim is promoting the progress and upholding the cause of science, in both pure and applied branches.
The Indian Academy of Sciences through many scientific meetings, symposia, and public lectures it organizes, aims to facilitate exchange of scientific insights among researchers and to highlight novel findings both within the scientific community and the public.
