Oct 20, 1998 · One of the two best standalone books that I’ve ever read so far; this is truly historical fiction at its finest. Lancelot by Giles Kristian was an amazing standalone and now, I’ve found Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield. I’m starting to feel that historical fiction is the right genre to visit when I’m looking for amazing standalone books.
