The present perfect tense is used for repetitive or constant actions that began in the past and continue to the present. The perfect progressive tense is used for continuous actions that began in the past and continue to the present. But I really don't see the difference here.

Contrast the earlier sentence with this one: Anne has lived here all her life.

  8. Aug 6, 2015 · Use "Over the last X years, Y was used" or "For the last X years, Y has been used". I totally agree. Since cannot be used in the example you provided, user3416265. I agree with Jim's last version, "For the last X years, Y has been used". That is the natural sentence that a native speaker would use.
