Ranjit Singh (13 November 1780 – 27 June 1839) was the founder and first maharaja of the Sikh Empire, ruling from 1801 until his death in 1839. He ruled the northwest Indian subcontinent in the early half of the 19th century. He survived smallpox in infancy but lost sight in his left eye.

3 days ago · We are delighted that the magnificent golden throne of Maharaja Ranjit Singh (1780 – 1839) of Punjab is the centrepiece of the exhibition Ranjit Singh: Sikh, Warrior, King at the Wallace Collection from 10 April – 20 October 2024.. The intricately designed and exquisitely decorated octagonal throne with rounded back and hourglass base elevated on eight small feet, was made in Lahore in the first quarter of the 19th century by the goldsmith Hafez Muhammad Multani.
