Lingotto is a building complex on Via Nizza in Turin, Italy. It once housed a car factory built by Italian automotive company Fiat and today houses the administrative headquarters of the manufacturer and a multipurpose centre projected by architect Renzo Piano.
Even before it was finished, the Lingotto building had become part of the popular Italian imagination: through Persico and Le Corbusier's interpretations of it, through the images of famous photographers, as well as the many visits to the factory by almost every major delegation visiting Italy.
In over 60 years the Lingotto factory gave life to over 80 different automobile models, the most famous of which were the Torpedo, the Balilla and the legendary Topolino (the first real version of Fiat 500). This last model was built from 1936 until 1957 when the version of the new Fiat 500 was presented.
