The PC-9800 series ( Japanese: PC-9800シリーズ, Hepburn: Pī Shī Kyūsen Happyaku Shirīzu), commonly shortened to PC-98 or 98 (キューハチ, Kyū-hachi), [3] is a lineup of Japanese 16-bit and 32-bit personal computers manufactured by NEC from 1982 to 2000.

Despite using Intel x86 chips, MS-DOS and Windows 9x, and many other superficial similarities, the series is not IBM compatible. No, the PC-88 is a completely different architecture. The PC-98 DO and DO+ have PC-88 hardware inside, but those are the only backwards compatible models, and they're too weak to run Touhou. There is a PC-88 emulator for PC-98 though, called P88SR.
