Ivan Edward Sutherland (born May 16, 1938) [6] is an American computer scientist and Internet pioneer, widely regarded as a pioneer of computer graphics. [7] His early work in computer graphics as well as his teaching with David C. Evans in that subject at the University of Utah in the 1970s was pioneering in the field.

Over the years, Ivan Sutherland has recieved many awards for his contributions toward computer science. Currently Sutherland is a vice president and fellow at Sun Microsystems. He has won many awards for his work including the ACM Turing Award (1988); the IEEE Emanuel R. Piore Award (1986); and the IEEE John von Neumann Medal (1998).
