Dr. U. V. Swaminatha Iyer, Tamil scholar and literatus , whose 141st birth anniversary fell on February 19, showed a keen interest in Tamil literature, even when he was young. His father, Venkatasubbiar, a musician, observing the child's aptitude, made all efforts to educate the boy, putting him in the care and tutelage of Tamil scholars.
