Ashis Nandy (born 13 May 1937) is an Indian political psychologist, social theorist, futurist and critic. A trained clinical psychologist, Nandy has provided theoretical critiques of European colonialism, development, modernity, secularism, Hindutva, science, technology, nuclearism, cosmopolitanism, and utopia.
Ashis Nandy’s work focuses on both the socially creative and destructive potential of human beings, and sources itself primarily in Indian history and contemporary trends as well as seeking to create academic linkages between the Indian subcontinent and other countries of the Global South.
Ashis Nandy, sociologist and clinical psychologist, is Honarary Fellow of CSDS. His research interests centre on the political psychology of violence, cultures of knowledge, utopias and visions, human potentialities, and futures.
