Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies at Sarnath in Varanasi is a Government-Central ‘deemed to be university’ established under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. The Institute, being a residential one, is fully funded by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
As a ‘Deemed to be University’, CIHTS offers more than 20 academic courses, the demand of which is increasing every year among the Tibetan speaking community. The Institute offers the admissions at the beginning of the semester and conducts it via an annual open entrance examination process.
