  2. The pride of 19th century Columbus’s schools, Central High School, began in 1847 in a few rooms, and the high school’s growth necessitated a separate building. High school was free to all under 21 who resided in the school district and could pass an entrance exam.

  6. Bishop Watterson High School, founded in 1954 under the auspices of the Diocese of Columbus, is a co-educational college preparatory institution serving the Central Ohio area. Bishop Watterson High School was the first co-educational diocesan high school in Franklin County.

  7. Central High School (1924-1982) - Current site of COSI. The original Central High School was built in 1862 and located at 303 East Broad Street. It was the first school in Columbus built specifically only as a high school. Its name was changed in 1911 to the High School of Commerce.
