Simon John Birmingham (born 14 June 1974) is an Australian politician who has been a Senator for South Australia since 2007. A member of the Liberal Party, he served in the Morrison government as Minister for Finance from 2020 to 2022 and as Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment from 2018 to 2020.
Chosen by the Parliament of South Australia on 3.5.2007 under section 15 of the Constitution to represent that State in the Senate, vice J Ferris (deceased). Elected to the Senate for South Australia 2007. Re-elected 2013 and 2016 and 2022.
Simon Birmingham has served as a Liberal Party Senator for South Australia since May 2007 and is the current Leader of the Opposition in the Senate. Under the Morrison Government Simon was appointed to position of Minister for Finance and Leader of the Government in the Senate after serving as Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment.
