Hemant Kamlakar Karkare, AC ( pronunciation ⓘ) (12 December 1954 – 26 November 2008) was the chief of the Mumbai Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). He was killed in action during the 2008 Mumbai attacks. In 2009, he was posthumously given the Ashoka Chakra, [1] [2] India's highest peacetime gallantry decoration.
