Gangubai Hangal (05 March 1913 – 21 July 2009) was an Indian singer of the khayal genre of Hindustani classical music from Karnataka, who was known for her deep and powerful voice. Hangal belonged to the Kirana gharana .

May 6, 2024 · Gangubai Hangal (born March 13, 1913, Dharwad, British India—died July 21, 2009, Hubli, Karnataka, India) was an Indian vocalist in the Hindustani (North Indian) classical tradition and doyenne of the Kirana gharana (community of performers who share a distinctive musical style).
Gangubai Hangal was born in Dharwad to Chikkurao Nadiger, an agriculturis and Ambabai, a vocalist of Carnatic music. Gangubai belongs to the Gangamat caste of Karnataka, fishermen and boatmen by occupation. She performed all over India and for All India Radio stations until 1945.
