Benoît Moerlen (born 6 February 1956) is a French percussionist, best known for his work in Gong, Pierre Moerlen's Gong and a later offshoot Gongzilla. History [ edit ] Moerlen studied the vibraphone at the Strasbourg Conservatory , where his elder brother Pierre Moerlen had also studied percussion.
Benoît Moerlen. Benoît studied classical percussion with Jean Batigne, co-founder of "Les Percussions de Strasbourg", focusing very early on mallet instruments. Soon he began to play professionally with classical orchestras and for French composers such as Guy Reibel, Yves Prin or Georges Aperghis.

I worked mostly for theatre, sort of improvised stuff. With the Scarface Ensemble, I did "Antoine et Cleopatre", with which we toured France. I played with them again in 1990-91 for two shows, "Rivage A L'Abandon" and "Un Ennemi Du Peuple". Then "Vaterland" in 1983-84 and "Memoires D'Un Visage Pale" in 1985-86 with Les Federes.
