Feb 20, 2015 · Populäre Mechanik was a post-punk, jazz bastard project created by Wolfgang Seidel, friend and sometime musical partner of Conrad Schnitzler and founder member of Ton Steine Scherben. This collection has been curated by Holger Hiller, best known as vocalist for Palais Schaumburg.

Rooted in the Zodiak Arts Club aesthetics of freedom and exploration, and prompted by the punk movement, Populäre Mechanik was coined as a vehicle to combine various strands of musical thought, from Devo-esque art-rock to jazz-wise detours and skinny dubs fracked with traces of slick yacht rock and exotica.
Nov 17, 2023 · This collection, curated by Palais Schaumburg founder Holger Hiller , includes tracks from two Populäre Mechanik cassettes from the early 1980s, never before available on CD or vinyl. The accompanying booklet includes Hiller's interview with Seidel, in which they discuss the function of rock and pop music over the past 45 years.
