The original manuscript of the novel had been written by Wyss’s father, Johann David, a clergyman, for and with the aid of his four sons.
Set in the late 1700s, The Swiss Family Robinson recounts the ten-year adventure of Robinson, his wife Elizabeth, and their four sons, Fritz, Ernest, Jack, and Franz on an uninhabited island in the south Pacific. En route to Australia, the Robinsons’ ship is wrecked in a turbulent storm.
