Nov 24, 2022 · Mayabazar is a whimsical fantasy of the kind we may not see in the near future, because the mythological is now being weaponised, masculinised even, which narrows the range of possibilities it affords for storytelling. But the epic still remains ripe for a revisit, despite its blemishes.
Maya Bazaar retells the popular folk tale Sasirekha Parinayam, which is based on the epic Mahabharata. After losing his kingdom to the Kauravas, Balarama fails to keep a promise he made to his sister Subhadra, and what follows forms the crux of this evergreen classic from Tamil cinema.
The story revolves around the characters in the Hindu Epic "The Mahabharata" and is set in Dwaraka, the hometown of Lord Krishna (NTR). Arjuna's son Abhimanyu (ANR) falls in love with Balarama's daughter Sasirekha (Savitri).
