The Cheerful Fraud. Summaries. Sir Michael Fairlie meets Ann Kent, a social secretary to the Bytheways, during a rainstorm in London, and though she snubs him, he promptly falls in love. He intercepts Simmons, an employee of the family, and, buying off his job, he introduces himself as Simmons at the Bytheway residence.
boblipton 23 October 2002. A year after they had a hit with the social comedy SKINNER'S DRESS SUIT, director Seiter and actor Reginald Denny teamed up again in this sharply-turned farce. reminiscent of the sort that Clarence Badger was doing with Raymond Griffith over at Paramount.
Review by PUNQ ★★. You have to be a pretty hardcore-Denny to love The Cheerful Fraud (1926). It does deliver on it's name of being cheerful, but not many major laughs or anything to make it anything other than your very standard time waster. A young man fakes his identity to impress a girl.
