Fighting over the rich Red Eagle gold mine, Steve and Spoffard, its coowners, mortally wound each other. In his final moments, Steve signs over his half-interest claim in the mine to his friend Matt Black; the other half of the mine is inherited by Spoffard's daughter, Bertie.
