The Conquering Power (1921) is an American silent romantic drama directed by Rex Ingram and starring Rudolph Valentino, Alice Terry, and Ralph Lewis. The film was based on the 1833 novel Eugénie Grandet by Honoré de Balzac. [1] Its sets were designed by Ralph Barton.

Monsieur Grandet, the wealthiest man in his province, forces his wife and daughter, Eugénie, to submit to the regime of mean poverty. Because of her wealth, Eugénie attracts aspiring suitors Cruchot de Bonfons, a minor magistrate, and Alphonse des Grassins, son of a local banker.
