Audie Murphy plays a Cavalry captain who takes on the entire Apache nation virtually single-handedly. He is undermined by villainous Corporal Bodine (Kenneth Tobey), who runs a thriving business selling guns to the Indians.
Following the Civil War, Apache chief Cochise goes on the warpath, vowing to kill every white man in Arizona. The cavalry unit at Fort Apache Wells under the unpopular command of Captain Bruce Coburn lead local homesteaders to the fort in preparation for an attack, but the men are inadequately armed.
