Even dismissive American critics noted the fine cinematography of Aldo Tonti, the music of Angelo Francesco Lavagnino and the beauty of actresses Ilaria Occhini, Liana Orfei and Maria Berti.

  8. Though made in Italy during the 1960s, Damon and Pythias is a cut above the typical peplum films of that decade. I was expecting a muscleman movie with a preachy moral about friendship. What I got instead was a well-written, well-directed film, almost a spy thriller set in Ancient Greece, on a par with Hollywood productions of that era like The 300 Spartans or The Robe.
