Silenced (Korean: 도가니; English: "The Crucible") is a 2011 South Korean crime drama film based on the novel The Crucible by Gong Ji-young, directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk and starring Gong Yoo and Jung Yu-mi.
In 1938, a girl, Joo-Ran (Park Bo-Young), is transferred to a boarding school in Keijyo (old name of Seoul). Joo-Ran learns of another student with the same name and she tries to figure out the hidden secret of the boarding school.
''The Silenced'' is an above average mystery drama from South Korea with a few minor horror elements. The plot takes places during the thirties of the last century when the country was occupied by the Japanese. It follows the story of a teenage girl who is transferred to an isolated boarding school.

In the new environment, she regains health thanks to her new friend, Yeon-deok, and the principal's special treatment program.
The Silenced. Story: Joo-ran (Park Bo-yeong) is brought to a girls' school by her mother, which also serves as a sanatorium. There she makes friends with the girl Yeon-deok (Park So-dam). Thanks to her Joo-ran's bad health soon gets better. The medicine administered by the sanatorium's head (Eom Ji-won) also helps.
