Dag Wirén (1905–1986) – composer, pianist, and critic – was one of the major innovators of Swedish 20th century music. His music is often characterised by an ascetic quality, and was influenced by composers such as Carl Nielsen and Jean Sibelius as well as French 20th century modernism.
Biography – Dag Wirén Foundation. Born on 15 October 1905 in Striberg, near Nora in the Swedish province of Västmanland. Grew up in Fjugesta south of Örebro, where his father had a roller blind factory. Piano lessons early on and attempts at composition in a home filled with musical activities of many kinds.
