Laurance Spelman Rockefeller (May 26, 1910 – July 11, 2004) was an American businessman, financier, philanthropist, and conservationist. Rockefeller was the third son and fourth child of John D. Rockefeller Jr. and Abby Aldrich Rockefeller .

Laurance Spelman Rockefeller was born on May 26, 1910, in New York City, the fourth of the six children of Abby Aldrich and John D. Rockefeller, Jr. He attended the Lincoln School of Teachers College of Columbia University in New York before entering Princeton University in 1928.
Laurance Rockefeller purchased and developed a resort on St. John, in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and also donated 5000 acres of the island to the National Park Service, which eventually became Virgin Islands National Park. He created seven complexes of resort developments, eventually managed together as Rockresorts Inc, established in 1966.
