The Eurasian skylark (Alauda arvensis) is a passerine bird in the lark family, Alaudidae.It is a widespread species found across Europe and the Palearctic with introduced populations in Australia, New Zealand and on the Hawaiian Islands. How to identify The Skylark is a small brown bird, larger than a sparrow but smaller than a starling. It is streaky brown with a small crest – which can be raised when the bird is excited or alarmed – and a white-sided tail.

Appearance & Identification. The Skylark is a rather non-descript bird, most easily confused with the Woodlark.. What do Skylarks look like? Skylarks are highly camouflaged little birds with brownish upper parts and pale underparts.
Geographic Range. Skylarks are native to North Africa, Asia, and Europe. British populations do not migrate, but populations from eastern Asia migrate to southeastern China and populations in the eastern Palearctic migrate to the northern Mediterranean.
Causes of change. There is good evidence to indicate that the most likely cause of declines in Skylark is agricultural intensification, specifically the change from spring to autumn sowing of cereals, which reduces the number of breeding attempts possible and may also reduce overwinter survival due to loss of winter stubbles.
