Martinez finished his career as one of only six players in history with at least 300 homers, 500 doubles, a career batting average at least .300, a career OBP of at least .400 and a career slugging percentage of at least .500. “I’ve never heard anyone say a bad word about Edgar Martinez,” said former Mariners manager Bob Melvin.
Edgar Martinez is a Hall of Fame designated hitter who played for the Seattle Mariners from 1987 to 2004. He won seven AL batting titles, five Silver Slugger awards, and was named to 10 All-Star teams.
Edgar Martinez, the best designated hitter in Major League Baseball history, retired at the end of the 2004 season after playing his entire 18-year Major League career for the Seattle Mariners. Edgar was inducted into the Mariners Hall of Fame on June 2, 2007.
