- John Hobbs, father of Jack, worked at the Cambridge. In 1889 Jesus College appointed him groundsman and umpire. Sammy Woods, Gregor McGregor and Arthur Owen Jones were cricketers who honed their skills on pitches prepared by John Hobbs.
