The domaine was founded in 1830 by Guillaume Roulot, and has 16 hectares (40 acres) of vineyards. it is led by Jean-Marc Roulot, who produces organic wine since 1989. The 1973 vintage of Roulot's white premier cru wine Meursault Charmes was ranked second in the historic Judgment of Paris wine competition.

Following the death of Guy Roulot in 1982, at the age of just 53, Californian Ted Lemon (who went on to establish Littorai in his home state), and then Grux, held the fort for Roulot, who was busy pursuing a career in acting.
Domaine Roulot established itself in the upper echelon of white Burgundy producers under the late Guy Roulot. Guy was one of the first producers of the region to bottle single vineyards separately, including village lieux-dits. He died in 1982 and his son Jean-Marc took over in 1989, farming the vineyards organically.
Domaine Roulot is an old family estate based in Meursault since 1820. These days it’s managed by Jean-Marc Roulot, who took over in 1989, giving up his acting career in Paris. Since his return to Meursault, Jean-Marc kept increasing the domain’s holdings through mix of vineyards purchase and fermage contracts.
