Maurice Schwartz, born Avram Moishe Schwartz (June 18, 1890 – May 10, 1960), born in the Volhynia province of the Russian Empire, was a stage and film actor active in the United States. He founded the Yiddish Art Theatre and its associated school in 1918 in New York City and was its theatrical producer and director.

The actor-manager Maurice Schwartz (b. 1888–d. 1960) was a towering figure of the modern Yiddish stage. Born Moshe Schwartz in Sudilkov, a small town in the Ukraine, Schwartz came to America in 1901, and within a few years he launched a successful acting career.
SCHWARTZ, MAURICE (1890–1960), U.S. Yiddish actor. Schwartz was the last major figure in the Yiddish theater of New York. He flourished at a time when there were about 20 Yiddish shows on Second Avenue in New York City, and his Jewish Art Theater was among the last to close.
