Stephen Percy Harris (born 12 March 1956) is an English musician, best known as the bassist, keyboardist, backing vocalist, primary songwriter and founder/leader of heavy metal band Iron Maiden. He has been the band's only constant member since their inception in 1975 and, along with guitarist Dave Murray, the only member to appear on every album.

- Genesis – Supper's Ready (Foxtrot, 1972) My introduction to Genesis came when someone at school recommended the Trespass album to me. I got into that, and then bought Nursery Cryme and Foxtrot after that.
- Jethro Tull – Thick As A Brick, Part 1 (Thick As A Brick, 1972) Another epic! There’s so much going on in this song, so many time changes, slow parts and fast parts, light and shade, and those dynamics are something I’ve always tried to consider for Maiden songs.
- UFO – Love To Love (Strangers In The Night, 1979) UFO have loads of great songs, and loads of great albums, but this version in particular, on Strangers In The Night, really struck a nerve with me.
- Wishbone Ash – Throw Down The Sword (Argus, 1972) Argus is one of my favourite albums of all time, and every song on it is great, so I’ve selected this one, the final track, just as introduction for people who don’t know it.

Jul 23, 2020 · Steve Harris is the heart of Iron Maiden, which he formed in 1975. Ever since, through the band’s rise to worldwide fame, he’s remained as Maiden’s solid, dependable bass player and the principal songwriter. And it’s clear from what he says in this interview which of those two key roles takes precedence.
However, it was the return of Dickinson and guitarist Adrian Smith (who originally left the band in 1990) in 1999 when Iron Maiden became a six-piece, that established the ultimate Iron Maiden line-up of Bruce Dickinson on vocals, Steve Harris on bass, Nicko McBrain on drums and “the three amigos” – Adrian Smith, Dave Murray and Janick Gers - on guitar, heralding a new golden age with the release of Brave New World album in 2000.
