Toshiya Shinohara graduated from Sophia University (上智大学). In 1983, he joined TMS Entertainment. Originallly, he worked at Tokyo Movie (which was then acquired by TMS); later on, he changed to do animation directing, working under the director Osamu Dezaki (出﨑 統) in works such as OVA Aim for the Ace!
