Richard Hageman. Composer, songwriter, conductor and pianist, educated at the Brussels Conservatory (Mus. D.) and the Royal Conservatory of Amsterdam, on scholarships. He was a concert pianist at six and accompanist for the Royal Opera Company in Amsterdam, assuming the conductorship in 1899.

The Oscar-winning composer Richard Hageman (1881-1966) has been all but forgotten and it is only through the recent rediscovery of his art songs that study into his compositions and artistic identity commenced. Originally from Leeuwarden, the capitol of Friesland in the Netherlands, Hageman settled in the USA in 1907.
